Philosophy Department announces 2013-2014 Awards

Awards were presented at the Annual Fall 2014 Welcome Party, September 11. The special event featured a cruise along the Erie Canal that included being lowered and raised through the Lockport Locks, giving a sense of the region's history.

       Awards 2013-2014:

  • A Plaque recognizing Fifty Years of Scholarship, Teaching and Service was given to John Kearns;
  • The Outstanding Professor Award was bestowed  by the graduate students upon Neil Williams;
  • The Hourani Award for the Outstanding Essay in Ethics went to Jake Monaghan for his paper “Contaminated Intuitions from McMahan’s Sperm Donor Case.”;
  • The Hare Award for Outstanding Essay was bestowed upon Brian Donahue for his paper “Macro Powers." (Ariane Nomikos was a strong runner up for the Hare award for her paper “Has it Always Been this Way: Expertise and Cognitive Penetration of Perceptual Experience”);
  • The Hare Award for Outstanding Department Citizenship was shared between Neil Otte and Rasmus Larsen;
  • The Outstanding Graduate Instructor Award was given to Catherine Nolan;
  • The Outstanding TA/RA Award went to Shane Sicienski;
  • Although no official award was given to Liz Felmet, Graduate Administrator, she deserves to be recognized for organizing such a fine party and boat ride.
