Program

Steve Reich: Drumming: Part 1 (1970-71)
Steve Reich's Drumming: Part 1 will be performed by Ensemble Signal in collaboration with UB faculty and UB percussion students. Written for multiple pairs of tuned bongos and inspired by Reich's visit to Africa and observation of musical ensembles, this work produces an ever changing groove.

Georg Friedrich Haas: String Quartet no.3 „In iij. Noct.“ (2001)
Picture this: four musicians are seated in the four corners of a room, the audience is seated in the center, and slowly darkness falls. What follows is the wild journey of Georg Friedrich Haas's String Quartet no.3, performed entirely from memory in total darkness by Ensemble Signal. A musical work in a concert format like no other. It has to be experienced to be believed!

Note: The majority of this performance will take place in TOTAL DARKNESS. Audience members must remain in their seats for their own safety. Safety personnel will be on hand in case of emergency. However, anyone why may be uncomfortable in a completely dark environment or who is unable to sit for at least one hour is advised not to attend.
