Football

The Bulls were idle last weekend. UB returns to action on Saturday for the annual homecoming game, beginning at 1 p.m. in UB Stadium. The Bulls will face the Ball State Cardinals.

Soccer

Men's
Kentucky 1, UB 0

UB finally got to play on its home field after opening with 10 straight games on the road. But the home-field advantage wasn't enough for the Bulls as Kentucky scored early and held on for a 1-0 win.

The Wildcats took advantage early against the Bulls for the game's only goal. Ilkka Jantti sent a pass down the left side that got by the UB defense. Chris McDaniel took the ball to the box and shot it past UB goalkeeper Brian Wozniak at the 3:16 mark to give Kentucky the 1-0 lead.

That lead would hold throughout the rest of the game.

Women's

Miami (Ohio) 2, UB 1
UB 2, Ball State 0

The women's soccer team entered its game with Miami in first place in the Mid-American Conference, a full game ahead of the Red Hawks and looking to extend the advantage. Miami had other plans, however, defeating the Bulls, 2-1, and forcing a tie atop the conference standings.

The Bulls got on the board first as Paula Listrani continued her assault on the UB record books. Listrani scored on an assist from Heather Collins at the 6:33 mark to take an early advantage. UB would hold that lead into halftime.

Miami came out quickly in the second half, with the Red Hawks scoring in the first five minutes on a goal by Danielle Berkemeier at the 49:14 mark to knot the score at 1-1. Miami would strike again in the 56th minute as Andrea Cunningham, the MAC's leading scorer, netted a goal past UB goalie Emily Cox for the go-ahead goal. That score would stand as the Red Hawks came away with the 2-1 win.

The Bulls responded strongly after Friday's loss at Miami and took another road win behind the play of Listrani, defeating Ball State, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon.

Listrani got the Bulls on the board first with a goal in the 24th minute of the first half, her 12th of the season and 44th of her career-a new UB record.

The Bulls added to that 1-0 lead late in the second half as Listrani dished the ball to Nicole Olszewski, who notched her fifth goal of the year to give UB the 2-0 win.

Athletes of
the week
Rick Stewart of the men's cross-country team was among UB's top finishers at the UB Invitational. Stewart was one of three Bulls to cross the finish line of the eight-kilometer race in the identical time of 26:10.7, second overall behind an unattached runner. The Bulls earned a tie for the team title with Cornell in the meet.

Jaime Adams of the women's soccer team earned the shutout in goal, needing only two saves as the Bulls defeated Ball State, 2-0, in Muncie, Ind. The shutout was the fourth by Adams this season and the seventh by the Bulls. She now has 21 shutouts in her four-year career.

Volleyball

Bowling Green 3, UB 0
Toledo 4, UB 1

The volleyball team's road woes continued with a three-game loss at Mid-American Conference opponent Bowling Green by 15-4, 15-7, 15-7 scores.

The Bulls returned home on Sunday to face Toledo. Although junior Amelia Liddle posted a career-high 13 kills and added four blocks, it was not enough as UB lost a four-game match. The Bulls rallied to earn a 15-11 win in game one before dropping three-straight games, 15-12, 15-7, 15-11.

Cross Country

Men tie for first, women place second in UB Invitational

The men's and women's cross-country teams concluded their regular seasons Saturday afternoon at the UB Invitational.

The men's squad tied for top honors with Cornell at 35 points apiece, while the women scored 46 points, finishing second behind Cornell, which posted 35 points.

Unattached runner Jerimie Slick won the men's 8-kilometer race in a time of 25:55.7. He was followed by three UB runners-Rick Stewart, Todd Ludden and Tony David-who each timed 26:10.7.

Waterloo's Debbie Buhlers blitzed the field to take the women's 5-kilometer race in 18:13.5. UB's Eileen Rose and Melissa Burrows placed third and fourth, respectively, in 19:30.5 and 19:39.8. Cornell runners took the next seven spots, ensuring the lowest score to win the team title.

Tennis

Men's

UB 7, Youngstown State 0

The men's tennis team completed its fall schedule with a 7-0 win over Youngstown State on Sunday in the UB Tennis Center. The win was the seventh of the season for the Bulls, but more importantly, it gave UB a perfect 7-0 fall record.

UB started off the day strong by sweeping all three doubles pairings.

The Bulls then moved on to singles competition, where they swept all six matches in two sets, never losing more than three games.

Women's

Youngstown State 7, UB 0

The women's tennis team dropped a non-conference match on Sunday to Youngstown State in the UB Tennis Center, 7-0, in the final home competition for UB for the fall season.

Crew

Women's

The women's crew squad was in action last weekend, competing on Saturday in the Head of the Niagara Regatta, hosted by the West Side Rowing Club, and participating in the Stonehurst Regatta in Rochester on Sunday.

At the Stonehurst Regatta, the Bulls finished second of four entries in the lightweight eights behind Mercyhurst. Two UB entries finished in the heavyweight eights as UB's A squad was 15th while the B team was 25th. The two entries from the heavyweight fours were scratched prior to the race.
