The stones were delivered to the installation site on Sept. 21. The delivery man pulling the pallet said this was more challenging than his typical artwork deliveries.
On hand for the delivery are, from left, Robert Scalise (standing next to the truck), director of the UB Art Galleries; Michael Wells (hands on hips), a local foundryman and sculptor who assisted with the installation; and Paul Pavia (pink shirt), son of the late sculptor, Philip Pavia.
One of the challenges of the delivery, besides the sheer weight of the stones, was getting the stones out of the truck using a lift that was barely larger than the pallets.
Installation begins. Michael Wells checks the schematic to ensure that each stone is placed in its proper position.
Michael Wells and Paul Pavia begin to assemble the stones on the slab that was put down last fall. A number of challenges delayed the installation, including weather and COVID-19.
