Photographs, slideshows and videos capturing life at UB
"Where We Meet" choreographer Phil Wackerfuss, a third-year MFA student, works with junior dance majors Kyle Kershner and Stephanie Avila.
Kyle Kershner (shadow) and Stephanie Avila perform. This semester, lab operating procedures and a module scheduling system allowed for 60-plus dancers and choreographers, and more than 20 designers and technicians to be able to work in person to create new works of concert dance.
Dance design and production students Becca Stock (left) and Halley Sylvester. For the design and technology students, making dance in the time of COVID-19 has created a new rhythm to the work.
Senior dance majors Emma Colligan (front) and Mandy McLenigan (shadow dancer behind the screen) perform "In No Time."
Dance design and production students Madison Sullivan (left) and Nick Taboni. Working in conjunction with the UB Production Group, they are learning to transfer live event skills to work for the camera.
"Cool Light/Red Heart" choreographer and UB faculty member Kerry Ring directs dancers (from left) Karrigan Rotella (junior), Julia Zeszutko (senior), Ava Lovsin (junior) and Kiara Cieslinski (sophomore).
Ava Lovsin stretches and warms up. During rehearsals, participants wear masks and maintain social distancing. Dance floors are sanitized between each session, and finished work is documented for online viewing.
Theatrical barriers and sets allow unmasked dancers to share the stage during filming, while only necessary personnel maintain distancing.
"Cool Light/Red Heart" director/choreographer Kerry Ring, clinical associate professor, shares feedback with (from left) dance majors Melanie Kaisen (junior), Sidney Bowers (sophomore), Tim Mayberry (junior) and Athena McCann (senior).
Sidney Bowers (left, sophomore) and Tim Mayberry (junior) perform another part of "Cool Light/Red Heart."
