News and views for the UB community
Kelly Ann Swartz, pictured at her home in Kenmore, was named the 2020 Outstanding Graduate from the Department of Transnational Studies. She is headed to Northwestern in the fall to pursue a master’s degree in mental health counseling.
Kelly wore the cap and gown from her eighth-grade graduation from St. Amelia School.
She was celebrating with her mother, Pat Swartz, who surprised her with the decorations.
“I’m so proud of her. She exceeded my expectations,” Pat said of her daughter.
Julie Przybyla poses for photos at her home in Clarence with her father, John.
Julie studied computer science and graphic design.
Her robe was a gift from Dad; the stole was provided by Tim Matthews, an adviser with the Honors College.
Julie celebrated with her brother, Jonathan, BS ’17 and MS ’19, who is also a Honors College alumnus. He is, quite clearly, her "wing man."
Avery Roper, pictured at his home in Buffalo, wore a robe that his oldest brother wore to his high school graduation in the mid '90s.
Avery celebrated with his mom, Deirdre, who has seen all four of her children go to college.
“My baby is graduating,” said Deirdre.
“So, funny enough, I wasn’t planning to go to graduation and then it was cancelled anyway,” Avery said. “I’m happy to watch it on the computer.”
Grace Galvin poses for a photo outside her Amherst home.
Mom Laura serves as photographer while Grace's father, Kevin, gets in on the #HornsUp action.
Grace gave the student speech during the Honors College's virtual recognition ceremony. She studied speech pathology with a minor in counseling and plans to continue at UB to work on a master’s degree.
