The iconic Miró Quartet returns to Western New York next month for a special residency with the Williamsville Central School District that concludes with a concert at UB.

Members of the quartet, who are returning to Buffalo for the fourth consecutive year, will take part in a day-long educational experience with Williamsville students on Nov. 2, capping off the day with a free concert at 7 p.m. at Williamsville North High School.

The concert will feature string students from each of the three Williamsville high schools performing a piece on their own and then joining the quartet for a second work. At the conclusion of the program, students from all three high schools will join the quartet on stage for a performance of Vaughan-Williams’ Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis, conducted by Rachel Lauber, director of the UB Symphony Orchestra.

The following day, the quartet will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Lippes Concert Hall in Slee Hall on the UB North Campus as part of the Slee Visiting Artist Series. Pre-concert music will be performed on stage by select Williamsville students, beginning at 7 p.m.

The Miró’s program includes two selections from Dvorak’s Cypresses; Kevin Puts’ Credo, commissioned by the quartet; and Mozart’s String Quintet No. 4 in G minor, K. 516, with Canadian violist Barry Shiffman.

A post-concert reception with the artists will follow in the Slee lobby.
