Published June 29, 2017

The search for the next vice president for philanthropy and alumni engagement has begun with the appointment of a search committee headed by A. Scott Weber, vice president for student life.

The search is seeking a successor to Nancy Wells, who announced in May that she would leave UB July 1 after five years in the position.

The search committee, appointed by President Satish K. Tripathi, includes UB senior leadership, staff, alumni and key external constituents. In addition to Weber, search committee members include:

  • Michael Anderson, BA ’97, vice president, Key Corporate Bank, and president, UB Alumni Association.
  • Gregory Bauer, BS ’82, founder and president, Employer Services Corporation, and chair, UB Foundation board.
  • Jonathan Dandes, BS ’74, president, Rich Baseball Operations, and member, UB Council.
  • Donald Elick, assistant vice president for corporate and foundation relations, Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement.
  • Liesl Folks, dean, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and professor of electrical engineering.
  • Allen Greene, director, Division of Athletics.
  • Jeremy Jacobs Jr., co-CEO, Delaware North.
  • Nancy Nielsen, MD ’76, senior associate dean for health policy, Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, and clinical professor of medicine.
  • Nancy Paton, vice president, University Communications.
  • Robin Schulze, dean, College of Arts and Sciences, and professor of English.
  • Paul Tesluk, dean, School of Management, and professor of organizational behavior.
  • Joseph Zambon, PhD ’84, DDS ’74, dean, School of Dental Medicine, and SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor, Department of Periodontics and Endodontics.

UB also has hired the consulting firm of Isaacson, Miller to assist in the search. Jack Gorman, vice president of Isaacson, Miller and the principal from the firm working on the search, has extensive experience leading the firm’s advancement practice and has built a strong network within the field of institutional advancement.

The search committee will begin its work in July; an appointment is expected to be made by the end of the fall semester.

Weber will update the university community throughout the coming months on the committee’s progress. Information also will be available on the search website.
