Fusco receives 2020 AACP teaching award

Nicholas Fusco, clinical associate professor in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, received the 2020 Emerging Teaching Scholar Award from the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP).

The award recognizes excellence of academic pharmacy faculty engaged in and supporting scholarly teaching and the study of teaching and learning.

“Nick’s commitment to teaching and learning is evident in the classroom, at his practice site, through involvement in curricular planning, and through engagement in educational research relating to interprofessional education,” says William Prescott, clinical professor and chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice.

A UB faculty member since 2013, Fusco’s teaching focuses on acute care pediatrics and interprofessional education, and his clinical scholarship concentrates on pediatric infectious diseases.

Fusco serves as assistant director for the Office of Experiential Education in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. He is also the school’s director of interprofessional education, as well as a key member of the UB Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice leadership team.

He has published numerous abstracts and manuscripts in the areas of teaching and learning, and has presented across the nation on interprofessional education, simulated learning and precepting (clinical supervision and instruction).

Fusco is the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Class of 2020 Faculty Member of the Year, chosen for his approachability and for helping the class navigate through challenging times. He has received several other teaching honors, including the 2017 AACP Teacher of the Year.
