Elizabeth Adelman, vice dean for legal information services in the School of Law and director of the Charles B. Sears Law Library, was elected vice president and president-elect of the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) executive board.

The AALL is a professional organization of more than 5,000 members that strives to promote and enhance the value of law libraries to the legal and public communities, foster the profession of law librarianship and provide leadership in the field of legal information and information policy.

Adelman, who has served on the AALL executive board since 2017, will enter into the new role in July 2021.

“The association is an important resource for legal information professionals,” says Adelman. “Now more than ever, the AALL membership needs leadership that will address the impact of COVID-19 on our various operations and services, and anticipate and prepare for the new normal. I’m prepared to take on that role.”

A noted scholar of legal librarianship and research, Adelman has co-authored or contributed to seven books, written several academic articles and published numerous electronic legal research tutorials.

She led the creation of the New York Codes, Rules and Regulations Digital Archive, which won a Notable New York Document Award from the New York Library Association’s Government Information Roundtable. She also received a 2011 SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Librarianship.

Adelman holds a JD from Albany Law School, and a master’s degree in library science and a bachelor’s degree from UB.
