UB students will have the chance to reunite with their families and share their life at UB during Family Weekend activities, set for Sept. 19-21.

This year’s activities include a carnival, a performance by magician Greg Frewin, a Fan Fest tailgate and Bulls’ football game, and the family brunch.

A UB tradition, Family Weekend opens with a carnival from 5-10 p.m. on the shore of Lake LaSalle, adjacent to the UB Bookstore on the North Campus. Held rain or shine, the free carnival will feature live entertainment, rides and games, food and prizes.

Other Friday events include the UB men’s soccer game against Detroit at 7 p.m. in UB Stadium (admission is free) and a performance by illusionist Greg Frewin at 7 p.m. in the Mainstage theater in the Center for the Arts. Admission is $15.

The Bulls football game against Norfolk State takes center stage on Saturday. Families may take part in the pre-game “Walk to Victory” in which the Thunder of the East marching band leads Bulls players and coaches into UB Stadium; the Fan Fest Tailgate in the Stadium lot (cost is $14 per person); a free Tailgate Concert by the Spin Doctors; and the game in UB Stadium (UB students are free; family members’ tickets are $12).

For the nonfootball fans, trips to the Great Pumpkin Farm in Clarence and Niagara Falls have been arranged at a cost of $14 and $12, respectively.

A concert by jazz/cabaret vocalist Marissa Mulder, “Tom Waits … In His Words,” will take place at 8 p.m. in the Drama Theatre in the Center for the Arts. Admission to the performance, the premiere concert in the CFA’s “New Voices Series” featuring up-and-coming national artists, is $26.50 for general admission and $16.50 for students from any school.

Family Weekend will close with the traditional Family Brunch in the Student Union lobby. The brunch, with seatings at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., sells out every year so be sure to get your tickets, at a cost of $17 per person, early.
