The hand-written, photocopied flier from 1980 asks a question and offers a response: “Gay at UB? Well, you are not alone!!”

The word “not” is underlined four times.

The flier, as well as other materials in the UB Libraries latest online archive, “LGBT at UB,” documents lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history at the university from the 1970s to the late 1990s.

The launch of the archive coincides with Buffalo & WNY Pride Week, which runs from May 25 through June 1.

Compiled by Nissa Thor, a graduate student in the Department of Library and Information Studies, the archive contains articles from UB’s student newspaper, The Spectrum; documents from student groups such as the Gay Liberation Front from the 1970s; yearbook images; and other materials.

The archive is part of UB Libraries digital collections, which includes 69 archives that range from the university’s prized James Joyce collection to its unparalleled Museum of Nueroanatomy, more commonly known as the Brain Museum.

For more information on these collections, visit the UB Libraries' website.
