UB co-sponsors NY pavilion at BIO International Convention

UB’s New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences partnered with the Buffalo Niagara Enterprise, Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus and National Grid to sponsor New York’s pavilion at the 2014 BIO International Convention, the world’s largest event for the biotechnology industry that was held earlier this week in San Diego.

BIO International Convention, which attracts the biggest names in the biotech industry, provides networking and partnering opportunities, and offers insight on the key trends affecting the industry. It features the BIO Business Forum (one-on-one partnering); hundreds of sessions covering biotech trends, policy issues and technological innovations; and BIO Exhibition, the world’s largest biotechnology exhibition.

Companies that were part of this year’s New York pavilion at BIO Exhibition were Buffalo BioLabs, For-Robin, QuaDPharma, Global H LLC, TheraSyn, Ceno Technologies Inc., Small Matter, InVentures Group, Harker Bio and Immco Diagnostics.

BIO International Convention serves as the largest venue for private company-to-company meetings in the world, with the number of one-on-one partnership meetings this year expected to exceed the all-time high of more than 28,000. Representatives taking part in the BIO One-on-One Partnering™ System have the opportunity to search thousands of company profiles and request and schedule an unlimited number of face-to-face meetings.

“BIO presents a wonderful opportunity to gain the support of the scientific, business and academic communities, and network with an abundance of brilliant entrepreneurs,” says Kate Rittenhouse-Olson, director of UB’s undergraduate program in biotechnology and founding president of For-Robin Inc., a company developing the promising drug JAA-F11: an antibody that stops breast cancer tumors from metastasizing to other parts of the body.

Keynote speakers at this year’s BIO International Convention included former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Group.
