Nanos named global fellow at Wilson center

Nikita (Nik) Nanos, research associate professor with UB’s Canadian Studies program, has been named a global fellow of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, D.C.

Nanos, a researcher and pollster, will work with the Canada Institute of the Wilson center on issues related to U.S.-Canada energy policy. In the summer 2013 he released his report examining the intersection of public policy and politics on U.S.-Canada energy issues.

Nanos’ completed an in-residence appointment in 2013 as a public policy scholar at the Wilson center and now will be a Global Fellow with the center for another two years.

In addition to his work at UB, Nanos is chair of the Nanos Research Group of Companies, a market and public opinion research organization that conducts research in Canada and the United States.

He is a regular contributor and conducts public opinion research for Policy Options, the official magazine of the Institute for Research on Public Policy (IRPP). During the last federal election in Canada, he was the official pollster for The Globe and Mail, a national newspaper based in Toronto, and CTV News. He has among the most respected election research track records in Canada.

At UB, Nanos has been conducting a longitudinal, bi-national study on Canada-U.S. border, security and economic issues.

The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars is a gathering place for some of the best and brightest scholars and experts from around the world. The center’s work informs the nation’s public policy debates.

Besides Nanos, Kathryn Friedman, director of international research at UB’s Regional Institute and a research associate professor of law and policy in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, also was named a global fellow at the Wilson Center.
