UB employees show holiday spirit

Once again, the UB community stepped up to help less-fortunate families in the community this holiday season.

Twenty-four departments from across the university “adopted” 24 different families as part of the Adopt a Family program sponsored by UB’s Office of Community Relations.

Families were referred by area community organizations based on need. Beginning in late November, participating UB departments received information on their adopted family and encouraged employees to shop for needed items ranging from children’s toys to grocery store gift cards for the moms and dads.

“This is the fifth year we have done this universitywide program, and it gets bigger and bigger each year,” says Linwood Roberts of UB community relations. “I am always pleasantly surprised by the generosity of our faculty, staff and students to help bring some cheer to underprivileged families during the holidays.”

On Dec. 23, representatives from each UB department were invited to Allen Hall to meet their family and help them load up their gifts.

The Adopt a Family program started with five departments in 2008 and has grown to nearly 25.
