UB to hold Neuroscience Research Day

Brain research being conducted at UB will be featured at the eighth annual Neuroscience Research Day on Sept. 5 in the Center for the Arts, North Campus.

The event is presented by the Buffalo Chapter for the Society for Neuroscience and UB’s Neuroscience Program. Paul Meyer, assistant professor of psychology, is the event organizer.

A highlight of the program is the Distinguished Scientist Lecture, which this year will be delivered by Antonello Bonci, scientific director and chief of the Synaptic Plasticity Section, National Institute on Drug Abuse’s Intramural Research Program. His talk, “Synaptic Plasticity and Substance Abuse: Optogenetics and More,” will begin at 7:15 p.m. in the Screening Room.

The event will open at 2 p.m. with a poster session presenting research by UB graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and some undergraduates. Selected graduate students will present their research from 4:15-5:15 p.m. in the Screening Room.

Matthew Paul, assistant professor of psychology, will give the New Faculty Presentation, “Sex differences in neuropeptide control of social development,” at 5:15 p.m.

Bonci’s lecture will follow dinner and poster awards.
