The Division of Development and Alumni Relations now will be known as the Division of Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement.

The name change clarifies the primary functions of the areas reporting to Vice President Nancy L. Wells. Approximately 130 professional staff members work in the division.

“We feel the term ‘engagement’ helps to better describe our efforts with UB alumni,” says Wells. “And ‘development’ carries several meanings to our constituents, such as commercial or economic development. Replacing it with ‘philanthropy’ helps clarify what we do.”

The renaming of the Office of Alumni Engagement, previously known as Alumni Relations, coincides with the office’s move this month to Harriman Hall on the South Campus. Offices located throughout the university that previously were known as Development and Alumni Relations now will be known as Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement.
