A UB alumnus has given $100,000 to help a group of students in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Mark Herlan, BA ’89, is CEO of Enpol, a plastics resin supplier headquartered in Atlanta. He has created the Enpol Student Assistance Fund to help promising students with financial need complete their degrees.

“I have benefited greatly from attending UB and believe this scholarship will give students who are experiencing financial obstacles an opportunity to focus on their studies without having to choose between earning their degrees and balancing the demands of other responsibilities,” says Herlan, who also is a member of the college’s Dean’s Advisory Council.

Adds Bruce Pitman, dean of the college: “Educational opportunity and ensuring students graduate in a timely way is important; the Enpol Student Assistance Fund will help students in need achieve this."

For the next five years, the Enpol Student Assistance Fund will provide eligible students with a one-year tuition scholarship to support them in their junior or senior years. Students must be enrolled in a College of Arts and Sciences program, demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Western New York.
