UB will host its annual UB Neighbor’s Day Block Party and Safety Fair from 2-5 p.m. Aug. 31 on the Hayes Hall lawn on the South Campus.

The event provides an opportunity for UB students who live off campus and neighborhood residents to get to know each other and kick off the academic year in a relaxed and informal environment.

The block party will kick off with the “Running of the Bulls,” a parade featuring UB’s Thunder of the East marching band and student athletes who, beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of Winridge and Winspear, will wind their way through the surrounding neighborhoods and end at the Hayes lawn.

The block party will continue on the lawn with live music, free food and information tables from campus, police and community agencies. It also will feature a simulated room fire at 5 p.m. to demonstrate how quickly fire can spread and how to guard against it.

The free event also will offer information about block clubs, community and civic groups, and university services.
