Patients and families dealing with Alzheimer's disease, stroke, movement disorders, multiple sclerosis and other neurological conditions will have a chance to learn about and discuss new treatments and research at UB’s second annual “Brains & Gains” on Nov. 2.

The free, public event takes place from 9 a.m. to noon at the Center for Tomorrow, North Campus.

Sponsored by the Department of Neurology in the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, the event features briefings on a broad range of neurological conditions and diseases, as well as breakout question-and-answer sessions with UB’s leading national experts.

Gil I. Wolfe, Irvin and Rosemary Smith Professor and chair of the Department of Neurology and chief of Kaleida Neurology Services, will moderate the event and discuss “Neuromuscular Disorders” with Nicholas Silvestri, assistant professor of neurology.

Other topics that will be featured are:

• Aging, Alzheimer’s Disease and Memory: Kinga Szigeti, assistant professor of neurology and director of the Alzheimer’s Disease and Memory Disorders Center
• Multiple Sclerosis and Neurocognition: Bianca Weinstock-Guttman, professor of neurology, director of the Baird MS Center and the Pediatric MS Center, one of six centers of excellence established by the National MS Society, and Ralph Benedict, professor of neurology
• Neuro-Ophthalmology: Norah Lincoff, professor of neurology
• Stroke: Robert Sawyer Jr., clinical associate professor
