The IT Transformation found its roots in the 2004-05 Service
Mapping Exercise for all university support services.
Analysis of the data revealed that IT was complicated, spread
throughout the campus, and the potential existed for consolidation
of servers and services to help free up IT staff time.
Formed by former Vice President for Information Technology and
CIO Voldemar Innus, the IT Strategic Transformation Committee was
given charge to
- study provision of IT services at UB understanding costs,
- compare what we do to peer and aspiring campuses,
- thoroughly understand the needs of our university’s
constituent groups.
The deliverables of the committee were to establish principles
and goals to transform IT, primarily to charter several work groups
and projects to implement the vision.
Initial planning for Phase II reorganization began in earnest in
fall 2008. A reorganization plan was proposed with considerable
campus discussion. Efforts to move forward with the plan were
placed on hold awaiting campus leadership change decisions.
