With our structural engineering and geohazard studies
research, UB is working to make our world a safer place in the
event of disasters.
Through our research we are actively involved in assisting
populations around the world prepare for and respond to extreme
events. These can include earthquakes, hurricanes, and any other
natural or manmade event effecting large groups of people and
infrastructure.
Over the last few years, faculty played a significant role in
the aftermath of the devastating 2010 earthquake in Haiti. Their
important work included assessing damage to structures as well as
collaborating to train Haitian engineers and architects to
construct buildings to able to better withstand damage from future
quakes.
