Upholding and propelling the cross-disciplinary work done within
Cultures and Texts are a group of Centers, Institutes, Initiatives
and Research Groups whose combined focus covers the breadth of
UB’s exciting research. All participants are drawn from UB
faculty and staff, as well as both undergraduate and graduate
students. Together, they contribute to both the rich intellectual
community at UB and the greater WNY community.
The UB Center for Disability Studies (CDS) is a recent product
of the singular cooperation between the UB College of Arts and
Sciences and People Inc., a regional service provider to people
with disabilities in the Western New York area. Eager to encourage
both academic research and community education, People Inc.
proposed the idea of a Center that would bring together its
resources and those of the University at Buffalo, the most
comprehensive university in the State University of New York
system. An agreement creating CDS as a three-year project was
signed in October, 2009.
The Center for the Study of Psychoanalysis and Culture (CSPC) is
a trans-disciplinary center - or faculty of eccentric actors -
housed within the University at Buffalo English
Department and supported by the department in conjunction
with the Dean's Office
of the College of Arts and Sciences. The Center is devoted to
preserving and developing the radical dimension of the Freudian
discovery.
The Digital Humanities Initiative at Buffalo (DHiB) functions as
an applied think-tank for the humanities and related areas. It is
designed to serve as an intellectual hub for scholars involved in
innovative research and instruction at the intersection of the
humanities, computing, and other emerging digital technologies and
to provide an environment in which faculty are encouraged to
experiment and develop digital solutions to challenges in research
and instruction, or to experiment with digital technologies that
may lead to new applications and project challenges.

UB’s Humanities Institute (HI) has become a powerhouse of
intellectual energy and interdisciplinary collaboration. With a
wide array of internationally recognized fellowships, lecture
series, interdisciplinary workshops, and conferences, it has formed
lively alliances with the major cultural institutions and school
systems of Western New York. The Institute offers many lectures,
events, workshops, and conferences on a regular basis.
