Phase II: Capital Projects
South Campus

The Allen Hall Gateway
The Allen Hall Gateway project offers an opportunity to create a bridge between the local community and campus population. Last year, the glass curtain wall on the front and back of the building were replaced at a cost of $4.2 million, transforming its image, and creating a welcoming new entrance. Planning is now underway to refashion the facility as a portal to the university or a “community union.” Allen Hall is currently home to WBFO radio station, the Center for Community Partnerships, and a 150 seat theater. A second phase of work will address improvements to the indoor theater and new landscaping to connect the facility to Main Street and the rest of campus.
South Campus Childcare

Construction will also begin this year on a major renovation of the South Campus Child Care Services. The two annex buildings that currently house childcare services will receive a major upgrade including the replacement of windows, exterior facades, roofs, and electrical systems. The design will also provide for creating more easily accessible facilities and new connections between the two buildings.
Kimball Tower & Wende Hall
Programmatic transitions for the Stockton Kimball Tower and Wende Hall are part of a larger ongoing strategic repositioning of campus elements across UB. Originally designed as a dormitory in 1957, Stockton Kimball currently houses the Nursing Department on the upper floors of the tower. Wende Hall is now being renovated to provide a new home to Nursing that will be more conducive to program expansion. Public Health and Health Professions will be brought together in the Stockton Kimball Tower.
Farber Hall Renovations
Nearly $9 million is set to be invested in renovation of the third and fourth floors of Farber Hall on the South Campus. The project will provide badly needed new research space for the School of Medicine and others.
John Kapoor Hall

The approximately 160,000 square foot facility, recently renamed in honor of alumnus John Kapoor, will be home to The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences to be relocated from Cooke-Hochstetter Hall on North Campus. Demolition began in spring 2008 and was expected to be complete in December. The existing building will be stripped down to its original concrete structural frame. The building will incorporate many green design features such as maximizing natural daylight (75 percent of all space in the building will receive natural light). The building will achieve a LEED silver rating. The building will provide a state-of-the-art Pharmaceutical Care and Teaching Center and establish a better link between the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Completion is scheduled for the summer of 2011. | Details
