Picture a time in the not too distant future when the Buffalo Niagara economy is flourishing. Well-paying jobs abound. Native citizens are encouraged to remain in the area to build their lives and careers. Opportunities here attract people from across the country and around the world.

The population grows, property values increase, and the quality of life soars as Buffalo Niagara becomes a desired destination.

Driving this surge is the fact that the region has become a hub for research and breakthroughs that draws the world’s brightest, most talented teachers, researchers, entrepreneurs, and students to what has become one of the top research universities in the country. And, in the process, the results proliferate throughout the area in the form of new business and economic development. Buffalo Niagara begins to be mentioned in the same breath as Silicon Valley, Boston, and the Research Triangle in terms of innovative research hubs.

This scenario is the result of industrious, ingenious, transformative thinking—a knowledge-based approach that has created an economic windfall for those research locales. The building blocks for that type of economy are already in place in Buffalo Niagara. They are being developed by the University at Buffalo along a path to prominence that is winding its way throughout our region.
