Tripathi, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs: University Community Budget Update Once again, I write to update our university community regarding the state of our budget. As you all know, the 2009-2010 NYS budget has been debated in Albany for a number of months. In the past week or so, we have been gaining additional clarity regarding the state budget and how the state’s fiscal challenges will continue to affect the financial health of our university. In a further effort to engage broadly our university community, we have met with the Professional Staff Senate, the Faculty Senate Executive Budget Priorities Committee, and the Faculty Senate Academic Planning Committee. First principle: It is imperative that we maintain our long-term vision for UB as a premier public research university and that we align reductions and investments to our institutional strategic priorities. - UB preparing for tight budget year: It’s ‘business not as usual’ for advisory group With UB facing an additional 7 percent cut in state funding—on top of 3 percent enacted earlier this year—an advisory group charged with advising the president, provost and senior leadership on where belt tightening might take place has begun work guided by the principle that at least for the near future, it is “business not as usual” at the university. Tripathi, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs: University-Wide Strategic Financial Management Advisory Group Yesterday, the University-Wide Strategic Financial Management Advisory Group (facilitated by Scott Nostaja, Interim Vice President Human Resources) held its inaugural meeting. At that time, I communicated to the group that the State of New York is projecting significant reductions in tax-based revenues over the next three years resulting from a downturn in the US and NYS economies.
