Strategic Financial Advisory Committee
Introduction
The Strategic Financial Advisory Committee was established in August 2008 by Provost Satish Tripathi as one of several ways that the administration is working with University at Buffalo stakeholders to respond to significant reductions in funding from New York State. In announcing the committee, the provost wrote, “In the spirit of UB 2020’s principles of collaboration, inclusion and transparency, I have charged the advisory group to provide advice regarding how best to achieve financial targets while preserving the university’s mission, vision and strategic objectives.”
Progress Update
In his April 2009 budget update, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Satish K. Tripathi outlines actions to address the university’s budgetary situation. The core principles guiding these actions are strategic budget reductions, commitment to progressive education for students, commitment to retaining and recruiting the most innovative faculty, and the elimination of wasteful resource use.
“While the challenges in front of us are clear,” Provost Tripathi writes, “we must remain steadfast in the pursuit of our university vision despite the economic vicissitudes of the day.” View updates
