The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences will have a
state-of-the-art new home after the gut-renovation of the old
chemistry building.
The 160,000-square foot facility, named in honor of alumna John
Kapoor and his wife, Editha, will be home to the School of Pharmacy
and Pharmaceutical Sciences, now located in Cooke-Hochstetter Hall
on the North Campus. The existing building was stripped down to its
original concrete structural frame. The new building will
incorporate many green-design features, such as maximizing natural
daylight (75 percent of all space in the building will receive
natural light) and will achieve a LEED silver rating. The building
will provide a state-of-the-art Pharmaceutical Care and Teaching
Center and establish a better link between the School of Medicine
and Biomedical Sciences and the School of Pharmacy and
Pharmaceutical Sciences. Work began in spring 2008. Construction is
expected to be complete in early 2012. Occupancy is scheduled for
summer 2012.
