Designed to meet LEED “Gold” standards, this
striking new building now houses Computer Science and Electrical
Engineering.
A new 130,000-square-foot classroom and laboratory building for
the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences will help
accommodate rapid growth in the school and support job-generating
research and translation in engineering fields. The building is now
home to the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and the
Department of Electrical Engineering, both of which play key roles
in advancement of research in “strategic strengths” in
fields of information and computing technology and integrated
nanostructured systems. The $61 million LEED-Gold facility was
designed by architects Perkins + Will. It features a
5,000-square-foot clean room and state-of-the-art
“cybertorium,” or “smart” auditorium, as
well as flexible research labs, classrooms and meeting areas to
foster interdisciplinary work. The finishing touches are currently
being performed, and an official ribbon cutting ceremony will be
held in April 2012.
