What is UB 2020?

UB 2020 is our university’s plan for achieving enduring prominence. It's the most ambitious transformation at UB since the campus joined the SUNY system in 1962.

UB 2020 is much more than a planning process. This initiative is on its way to becoming the institutional culture of the university and the basis for all decision making. UB 2020 is guiding the creation of a university that is sharper in both focus and physical appearance and stronger academically than ever before.

UB 2020 is about providing our students with the very best education, and providing our communities with cutting-edge research and clinical care. It’s about providing solutions and strategies for addressing the critical social, technological and cultural challenges of our time, and regenerating the economic future of the Buffalo-Niagara region.

All of this progress adds up to a research university that is clearly on an accelerating trajectory of excellence and making a profound impact on our community, nation and world.

Cultivating Strategic Strengths

To advance UB 2020 and become a model 21st-century public research university, UB is investing in eight areas where existing faculty strengths, together with investment in world-class new hires and resources, will give the university a pre-eminent leadership role among its peers.

Building UB: Our Physical Plan

For UB to become a model 21st-century university—an open place of learning and a generator of new ideas that sets a standard of academic excellence and serves a diverse population in today’s knowledge-based society—it must have a physical presence that supports those goals.
