Governor Andrew Cuomo joined UB president Satish Tripathi and
legislative officials at the UB Center for the Arts to sign the
historic NYSUNY 2020 bill in 2011.
Critical resources resulting from the passing of the NYSUNY 2020
bill are allowing UB to implement the next phases of the UB 2020
plan for academic excellence.
On June 25, 2011, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed into law NYSUNY
2020. This historic piece of higher-education legislation is
helping UB and New York’s other public universities become
catalysts for regional economic development, while maintaining
affordable tuition and improving academic quality for all
students.
"New York State's universities are the jewel of our state's
educational system, and with this bill the SUNY system will now be
perfectly positioned to become the engine of economic growth across
the state," Governor Cuomo said upon signing NYSUNY 2020 into
law.
Using the NYSUNY 2020 Challenge Grant and with revenue from the
law’s rational tuition plan, UB is advancing important
elements of its UB 2020 plan for academic excellence: investing in
faculty strength across the disciplines and moving the medical
school downtown. The university is also making investments in
enriching students’ educational experiences.
