"Free at Last: A History of the Abolition of Slavery"
A traveling exhibit curated by world-renowned historian James Oliver Horton for the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History will be on display in the Undergraduate Library from Monday through April 28 during normal library hours. The exhibition traces the political, moral and religious aspects of the debates over slavery that took place from 1780 to 1865. It is comprised of 22 freestanding panels, a video and interpretive and educational materials, including personal letters, documents, cartoons, photographs and broadsides, drawn in large part from the Lehrman collection. Many of the items previously have been unavailable to the public on a widespread basis, such as an early fragment of the "House Divided" speech by Abraham Lincoln.

The thesis exhibition for seniors in the Department of Art will be on display Tuesday through April 25 in several sites in the Center for the Arts, North Campus, including the second floor of the UB Art Gallery, the center atrium, rooms 208 and B13, the Art Department Gallery and the student lounge. A map of exhibition areas will be provided to visitors. The exhibition, whose name derives from the collective weight of all the pieces in the show (1,724 lbs. or 782 kilograms) will open Tuesday with a public reception in honor of the 35 exhibitors from 5-9 p.m. in the UB Art Gallery. The exhibition can be viewed from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

"Big Orbit: Ten Years of Spin on Western New York Art"
Examples of artwork that have been exhibited at Big Orbit Gallery during the past 10 years will be on display through April 28 in the Anderson Gallery, Martha Jackson Place, Buffalo. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 1-5 p.m. on Sunday.

"Alan E. Cober: A Retrospective Afterlife"
An exhibition honoring the life and work of the late illustrator and teacher Alan E. Cober will be in display through May 18 in the first floor gallery of the UB Art Gallery in the Center for the Arts, North Campus. Cober was a visiting professor of art and Distinguished Visiting Artist at UB from 1987-96. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
