A memorial service was held May 3 for Gloria L. Roblin, the first non-medical doctor to become a full clinical professor at the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.

Roblin died April 25 in Millard Fillmore Hospital. She was 76.

Born Gloria Landsman in New York City, Roblin graduated from Barnard College at age 20 and within two years had earned a master's degree and joined the Columbia University faculty.

She moved to Buffalo and put her career on hold after marrying local industrialist and civic leader Daniel A. Roblin Jr.

But once her children finished elementary school, Roblin earned a doctorate in psychology from UB in two years, finishing the coursework with straight "As" and passing with distinction the orals for her dissertation.

During her years as a UB faculty member, she pioneered the medical study of both human sexuality and clinical hypnosis, and created courses in both areas.

An animated and entertaining speaker, her lectures and speeches drew standing-room-only crowds.

The medical school's 1980 yearbook was dedicated to her.
