Law School to hold annual awards dinner
Five graduates to receive Distinguished Alumni Awards; Jacobs also to be honored

Five graduates of the Law School will receive Distinguished Alumni Awards for their valuable contributions to the legal profession and community at the 39th annual UB Law Alumni Association meeting and dinner, to be held at 6 p.m. May 10 in the Hyatt Regency Buffalo.

The alumni association also will recognize a non-alumna, SUNY Trustee Pamela R. Jacobs, who will receive a special award for outstanding service to the Law School and community.

Awards will be presented to:

• The Hon. Barbara Howe, '80, New York State Supreme Court judge, who will be honored for her conscientious and diligent performance in the judiciary. A former city court judge, she holds a doctorate and teaches in the UB Department of Sociology. She chairs the Erie County Executive's Advisory Board on Alternatives to Incarceration and The Women's Group.

• Carl A. Green, '50, Of Counsel to the law firm Lipsitz, Green, Fahringer, Roll, Salisbury & Cambria, L.L.P., who will be honored for his leadership by example as a private practitioner. A highly successful litigator, he has concentrated his practice in personal injury, civil litigation, construction accident law and toxic tort liability law. He obtained the first jury verdict in favor of an asbestos victim in New York State and was instrumental in achieving passage of legislation that permitted thousands of asbestos workers to pursue their claims through New York courts.

• Joseph F. Crangle, '59, a solo practitioner, who will be honored for his commitment to public service. One of Western New York's most prominent public figures, he served as chairman of the Erie County Democratic Party and as a member of the Democratic National Committee. He also served as a member of the board and as chairman of the Erie County Water Authority, as special counsel to the Niagara Falls International Bridge Commission and on the board of directors of the Community Foundation of Greater Buffalo, among others.

• Judith B. Ittig, '71, partner in the Washington, D.C., law firm of Ittig & Ittig, will be honored for her many contributions to the betterment of our community. Chair of the Law School's Dean's Advisory Council, she practices construction law and serves as an arbitrator and mediator for the American Arbitration Association in construction cases. She is a frequent presenter at conferences on construction law throughout the United States and abroad.

• Linda J. Nenni, '83, vice president and general counsel of Kaleida Health, who will be honored for her exemplary achievements in business. Formerly vice president and general counsel to Millard Fillmore Health System, she has helped to guide this region's largest health-care system through a period of consolidation and change. She serves as secretary and member of the Executive Committee of the Health Law Section of the New York State Bar Association and for the past five years has served as a member of the state bar Committee on Health Care Delivery Systems.

• Pamela R. Jacobs, SUNY trustee, who will receive the Aaron N. Bloch Memorial Award, named for the late UB provost, for outstanding service to the Law School and to the community by a non-alumna. An influential policy maker, she serves as chair of the trustees' Student Life Committee. She is a founding member and director of the Roswell Park Cancer Institute Alliance and serves as a trustee of the Nichols School. She has played an active role in numerous Western New York civic, educational and cultural organizations.
