Kent takes 3 of 4 from Bulls
After falling to Kent State in the first three games of their Mid-American Conference series, the Bulls rallied Sunday to take the finale, 13-5.
The Bulls led 7-0 before the Golden Flashes closed the gap to 7-5 in the eighth inning. UB's bats then went to work in the ninth. Bryan Sanchez homered-his third of the season-to give the Bulls an 8-5 lead. Joe Todoro scored on a wild pitch and Corey Blair crossed the plate on a passed ball to give UB a 10-5 lead.
Adrian Daniels, Tim Sova and Brandon DiCesare each followed with run-scoring hits to give the Bulls the victory.
The weekend didn't start as well for the Bulls, however. In Friday's opener, the team squandered a 7-5 lead as Kent State's Dan Gutschmidt hit a three-run, game-ending homer for the 8-7 decision.
In Saturday's doubleheader, the Bulls dropped both ends by identical 6-0 scores.

Adam Smith of the track-and-field team set a new school record in the discus throw at the Akron Quad Meet. Smith won the event with a toss of 50.94 meters, breaking the previous mark of 49.78 he set the week before at the Alabama Relays. Smith also finished second in the shot put with a toss of 15.01 meters.
Jenelle Callender of the track-and-field team won the 200-meter dash in 25.16 seconds at the Akron Quad Meet. Callender also placed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.39 seconds. Callender is the school record holder in both events, setting the marks as a freshman last season.

Ohio sweeps tripleheader; Bulls drop one to Akron
The Bulls dropped all three games of a tripleheader to Ohio on Saturday to open the home portion of their inaugural MAC season. The Bobcats hung on for 2-0 and 3-2 wins in the first two games before scoring seven unanswered runs in the final game to earn a come-from-behind 7-1 victory.
The Bobcats opened game one with three straight singles. Kelli Bankert's base hit drove in Crystal Turner with the first run of the game in the top of the first inning. Turner then singled with two outs in the second inning and scored the only other run of the game on a double to left center by Sara Kraus.
Ohio's Turner led off the second game with a triple and got the Bobcats out to another 1-0 lead after the first inning, scoring on a sacrifice fly by Kraus. Tiffany Bolton then drove in two more Ohio runs in the top of the fourth inning with a single up the middle to put Ohio up 3-0. The Bulls answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth inning, but the Bobcats held on for the win with solid defense and strong pitching.
In the final game of the tripleheader, sophomores Kelly Malone and Jennifer Moore hit back-to-back singles for the Bulls, and Malone came around to score on a wild pitch to get UB out to its first lead of the day. Ohio, however, manufactured four runs in the fourth inning and three runs in the sixth to earn the 7-1 victory.
The Bulls finished their weekend with a 5-0 loss to the Akron Zips on Sunday.
Outdoor track
Women place third, men fourth in Akron meet
The women's team finished third among the four teams at the Akron Quad Meet with 146 points, while the men's squad was fourth among four teams with 121 points.
Both Akron women's and men's squads won the meet with scores of 202 and 189 points, respectively.
UB thrower Adam Smith set a new school record in winning the discus throw with a toss of 50.94 meters, breaking the record he had set the previous week at the Alabama Relays. UB's Bryan Lundy won the javelin throw at 56.54 meters, while Keith Gentes was victorious in the hammer throw at 56.14 meters. Kamau Halim also posted a first-place showing, taking the triple jump with a leap of 15.03 meters.
The UB women got a strong effort from Jenelle Callender, who won the 200-meter dash in 25.16 seconds while also placing second in the 100 meters in 12.39. Biaunca McFarland won the triple jump at 11.84 meters.

Men's
Junior forward Robert Brown, who led the Bulls in both scoring and rebounding this season, was named to the College Insider.Com All-JUCO Team.
To qualify for the team, the 15 players had to have transferred from a junior college and participated in their first season at a four-year school.
Brown came to UB from Schoolcraft Junior College outside of Detroit. In his first season with the Bulls, the 6-4 forward averaged a team-leading 15.3 points and 5.7 rebounds and shot 49.7 percent from the floor.

Men's
Ball State 7, UB 0
UB dropped a 7-0 MAC decision to Ball State last week. The Bulls now are 11-3 overall and 0-2 in the MAC.
Women's
Miami 7, UB 0
Marshall 7, UB 0
UB fell to Miami and Marshall by 7-0 scores last week. The squad now is 2-11 overall and 0-4 in league play.
Crew
UB's spring crew season got under way in Ithaca last week as the Bulls participated in a tri-meet with the Bombers and Marist. UB's lightweight eight squad emerged victorious in its race, finishing the course in 7:42.0, five seconds ahead of Ithaca.
