PCC and the Initiative to Reduce Psychotropics and Unnecessary Medications

Presenter in class.

This prerecorded workshop facilitated by Rhonda Rotterman, RN will thoroughly review and describe the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) initiative to reduce the use of off-label medications among those with cognitive impairment, the focus of F-Tag 329; the right to be free from unnecessary drugs, and other citations that may be linked to F-329 as it relates to: cognitive impairment, activities, medication review requirements, self-determination and participation, assessments and care planning. Non-Pharmacological interventions and root cause analysis will be reviewed at length as well as possible citation severity levels under F 329. This prerecorded workshop will have participants re-thinking how they look at “behaviors” and be more apt to understand the importance of knowing those they care for as a valuable tool for gaining insight into why those with cognitive impairment may be acting out.
