BUFFALO, N.Y. – The following is a statement from Brian F. Hamluk, vice president for student life:
“It is with much regret and sadness that we confirm a University at Buffalo student was among the 17 people lost in Sunday’s tragic high-rise apartment fire in the Bronx.
Fatoumala Drammeh, 21, died in the Jan. 9 fire along with her mother and younger sister and brother, according to media reports.
Fatoumala was a third-year student at UB, where she was enrolled as a political science major and lived in residential housing on campus. Fatoumala was active at UB as a student in the Educational Opportunity Program, as well as vice president of UB PULSE – Powerful United Ladies Striving to Elevate.
UB was made aware of Fatoumala’s death on Wednesday and the community remains heartbroken over the loss of one of our own. She is remembered by those in the UB community as an ambitious and kind student and we mourn the loss of such a promising, passionate young woman.
