What mentoring means to me:

Mentoring is sharing knowledge to help others in a chosen field. Mentoring is meeting people where they are and helping them get where they want to go. Mentoring is showing several pathways and giving input as to what taking each path looks like.

Topics I am willing to discuss with students:

Academic Culture

  • Considering a non-academic path after grad school.
  • Dealing with politics and conflict with faculty or peers.
  • Decoding and demystifying academic culture and norms.
  • Taking a non-traditional path to grad school.
  • Uncertainty about staying in grad school.

Other Topics

  • How to become a scientist.
  • How to become a scholar.
  • How to set up a path towards professional happiness.

Personal Experiences

  • Caregiving for children.
  • Financial stress and strain.
