The English Language Institute assists international undergraduate students in acquiring the sophisticated use of English at the university through a sequence of English courses that fulfill UB’s Communicative Literacy requirement.
The English Language Institute, founded in 1971 and a unit of the University at Buffalo Graduate School of Education, offers English language instruction, cultural orientation and pre-academic training to international students, scholars and professionals on an intensive and per-course basis.
Our Intensive English Program (IEP) provides high-quality, intensive English instruction, preacademic training and cultural orientation to international students preparing for university study in the United States. We also welcome individuals who are not students and wish to improve their English language proficiency.
