Effective leadership involves working with and through others to get important things done and inspiring others to do their best.  In this session, School of Management Dean, Paul Tesluk, will be discussing important findings on shared leadership, how it helps teams be more agile and effective, and strategies you take to multiply your own effectiveness through using shared leadership.

About Paul Tesluk
As dean, Tesluk has led expansion of the School of Management’s initiatives in entrepreneurship, leadership, health care management, social innovation, global programs, and diversity and inclusion.

He has championed new undergraduate and graduate academic programs, including an expanded set of interdisciplinary master’s programs and graduate certificate programs. Under Tesluk’s leadership, the school has risen in rankings as one of the world’s leading public business schools, increased its alumni engagement and philanthropic support, and made a significant impact on organizations and the business community.

A faculty member since 2011, Tesluk served as chair of the school’s Organization and Human Resources Department. He also founded and served as academic director of the Center for Leadership and Organizational Effectiveness.

With an extensive career of scholarly and academic leadership, Tesluk was recognized by UB with an Exceptional Scholar Award for Sustained Achievement, and is an elected fellow of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology and the Society for Organizational Behavior. He was also elected to (and served as chair of) the executive committee for the Organizational Behavior Division of the Academy of Management, the world’s largest and most prominent association of management and organization scholars. His research has been supported by such agencies as the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health.

Tesluk has considerable experience in designing, leading and teaching executive and corporate development programs on topics involving teams, leadership development, organizational change and innovation.

Previously, Tesluk was on the faculty in the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland. He earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial and labor relations from Cornell University, and doctoral and master’s degrees from The Pennsylvania State University, where he majored in industrial/organizational psychology and minored in management and organization.
