Increasing global awareness. UB is celebrating International Education week Nov. 12-16 with a full slate of events designed to increase global awareness on campus.

MS severity linked to genetic makeup. Magnetic resonance images (MRIs) of a large group of patients with multiple sclerosis have provided the first evidence that those with a history of MS in their families show more severe brain damage than patients who have no close relatives with the disease.

José named AAAS fellow. Jorge V. José, vice president for research, has been elected a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the world's largest general scientific society and publisher of the journal Science.

Reducing school-bus emissions. UB students are working with several Erie County school districts to turn their buses into air-quality testing grounds in an attempt to reduce toxic diesel emissions from the buses.

Experiences of a child soldier. Ishmael Beah talked about his experiences fighting as a child solder in Sierra Leone during a Distinguished Speakers Series lecture last week.

Representation on board encouraging. President John B. Simpson told the Faculty Senate Executive Committee yesterday he is encouraged by UB's representation on the board of the Western New York Healthcare System.
