Simpson addresses state of UB

In his annual address to the voting faculty on Tuesday, President John B. Simpson provided an update on UB's progress over the past year and urged SUNY to change the way it funds its universities. » Full Story

Dell partnership saves UB millions

UB has entered into a partnership with Dell Inc. that will standardize computer workstations for UB faculty, staff and students while saving the institution $2 million annually. » Full Story

Improving quality of work life. UB is focusing on improving the quality of work life at the university in order to recruit and retain employees, members of the Professional Staff Senate learned at their meeting last week.

Back to the beginning. For Vibeke Sorensen, returning to UB to chair the Department of Media Study after being away from the university for more than 30 years has been to return to the place where it all began.

Neuroimaging analysis center expands. An expanded Buffalo Neuroimaging Analysis Center, an internationally renowned UB research center that works to advance the understanding of diseases of the brain, spinal cord and optic nerve, was unveiled last week in Buffalo General Hospital.

Go Bulls! UB will celebrate Homecoming this weekend with a variety of events that lead up to the big football game against the Ohio University Bobcats on Saturday.

Addressing change. The Regional Institute will mark its 10th anniversary by reflecting on the issue of change—how it happens, why we resist it and what it means for the Buffalo Niagara region—at a symposium next week.

Progress on spintronics. A novel device developed by UB engineers traps, detects and manipulates the single spin of an electron, overcoming some major obstacles that have prevented progress toward spintronics and spin-based quantum computing.

Financial support key to athletic success. A committee following up on the recommendations of a report by consultant Gene Corrigan has identified additional financial support as the key to the future success of UB's intercollegiate athletics program.

Moore jabs. Controversial filmmaker Michael Moore lived up to his billing on Saturday as he entertained a UB audience with his patented blend of humor and biting criticism.
