UB will formally launch a new Institute for European and Mediterranean Archaeology today with an inaugural ceremony and the institute’s first academic conference tomorrow and Saturday. » Full Story

Promoting a healthy lifestyle. The ninth annual Wellness Awareness Day will be held on Wednesday with a variety of programs, including three new initiatives designed to encourage a healthy lifestyle.

Simpson expects budget cuts. The unexpected resignation of former Gov. Eliot Spitzer, as well as ongoing debate and discussion among the Legislature over the 2008-09 budget, suggests looming cuts for many state agencies, including SUNY, President John B. Simpson told the Faculty Senate on Tuesday.

Race in the boxing ring. Faculty member Theresa Runstedtler explores representations of race and popular culture in a historical context using a unique subject—the sport of boxing.

‘Growing’ blood vessels. Clinicians looking for a rich source of stem cells to be engineered into new blood vessels or skin tissue may one day look no further than the hair on their patients’ heads, according to new research by UB engineers.

Preserving knowledge. The Center for Book Preservation in the UB Libraries works to protect books, periodicals and research materials from the ravages of nature and time.

Easing recovery from dental surgery. A UB study found that corticosteroids lessen swelling and jaw stiffness significantly following wisdom tooth surgery, but have minimal effect on pain.

Crossing Borders. An annual multidisciplinary student conference on the United States, Canada and border issues will take place today and tomorrow at the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society and on the UB North Campus.

China focus of town hall program. For the second year in a row, the Asian Studies Program will host a “CHINA Town Hall” program organized by the National Committee on United States-China Relations.

RKN expands. The Regional Institute has unveiled a new topic area, Civic Infrastructure, and an expansion of online features of its Regional Knowledge Network.
