9/11 REMEMBRANCE. One of the most anticipated events in UB history is finally at hand, as His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama comes to campus next week for a three-day visit. » Full Story

Taking steps toward good health

UB faculty and staff have an opportunity to participate in a free program that is designed to help them get fit, gain more energy and possibly lose a few pounds. » Full Story

A glimpse of administrative life. Four senior faculty members have been selected to participate in a program designed to supplement their experiences as researchers and scholars with administrative duties that acquaint them with important issues in higher education.

Developing nanoparticles for imaging. Researchers at UB's Institute for Lasers, Photonics and Biophotonics are using a $1.1 million grant from the John R. Oishei Foundation to develop a new generation of medical imaging.

Visionary school takes shape. To celebrate the visit of the Dalai Lama to UB next week, the School of Architecture and Planning will present an exhibition of photographs and architectural plans of a virtually self-sustainable educational complex that's being built in the Indian Himalayas.

UBMicro grows under Volpe's guidance. UB staff member Ray Volpe has developed UB's not-for-profit computer and software retailer from a one-room operation into an enterprise serving campuses SUNY-wide.

Considering cultural differences. Kim Griswold and colleagues in the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences are working to formalize cultural-competency training for UB medical students.

Putting a damper on quakes. Seismic dampers that were tested at UB will be installed in a luxury residence being built in southern California.

Walsh named Niagara Frontier Executive. John N. Walsh III, president and CEO of Walsh Duffield Companies Inc., has been named the 2006 Niagara Frontier Executive of the Year by the School of Management.

Enrollment continues to grow. UB said "welcome"—as well as "welcome back"—to 27,836 students for the 2006-07 academic year, the Faculty Senate Executive Committee learned yesterday.
