Parking rules set for Dalai Lama visit

About 30,000 people are expected to hear His Holiness the Dalai Lama speak at UB on Sept. 19, and the university has developed a transportation and parking plan to handle the unprecedented number of visitors to campus. » Full Story

Sensors aim to detect chemicals

Researchers at UB's Center for Unified Biometrics and Sensors are working to develop a biometric sensor that can detect traces of potentially dangerous chemicals on the fingers of airline passengers. » Full Story

Law and Karma. The 14th Dalai Lama will make his very first visit to a U.S. law school conference while at UB next month, and will publicly share for the first time his thoughts on how religion, particularly Buddhism, can influence law and bring about social change.

Botox helps facial-wound healing. Botulinum toxin, the same Botox used to treat facial wrinkles, helps facial wounds heal with less scarring, according to results of a study conducted by a UB faculty member.

Back in the swing. The Buffalo Museum of Science's 75-foot Foucault pendulum is no longer out of commission, thanks to the efforts of a professor and undergraduate student in UB's Department of Physics.

Educating students about Dalai Lama. The Office of Student Affairs has launched a campaign to educate and excite students about the upcoming visit of the Dalai Lama to UB.

Jewish culture expert to speak. An administrator and professor emeritus from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign will share his story at UB about how he and others built a successful program in Jewish culture within a public university, something UB also is working to achieve.

Exhibits to spotlight Dalai Lama. The UB Libraries will host a wide range of exhibits in September to coincide with the visit to UB by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.

Hotels are home for some students. Nearly 200 UB students unpacked their bags in hotel rooms this semester as the university supplies alternative housing in response to high acceptance rates and surprising numbers of on-campus housing applications.
