School of Informatics reorganized

Earthquake engineering goes high-tech. A technology first used during the Cold War to isolate ballistic missile silos from vibrations will undergo its first test in a full-scale, wood-frame townhouse on July 6 at UB.

Stem-cell research for damaged hearts. A specialist in stem cell biology at UB has received a federal grant to investigate the potential of bone marrow-derived adult stem cells to treat the serious heart malfunction known as hibernating myocardium.

Spirituality-health link discussed. Although research suggests that religion and spirituality can have a significant impact on mental and physical health, many mental health practitioners are reluctant to broach the topic with their clients, a UB psychologist told those attending a UBThisSummer lecture.

Exhibition celebrates Feldman's birthday. The UB Music Library has opened an exhibition of material from its Morton Feldman Collection in celebration of what would have been the 80th birthday of the late, pioneering composer.

Genetic analysis to pinpoint disease. The latest advances in characterizing abnormalities in an individual's DNA that are responsible for gene-based diseases and developmental disorders were the topic of the initial lecture on Monday in a special series celebrating the grand opening of UB's New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences.

Out of lab and into marketplace. The special lecture series celebrating the opening of the Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences concluded yesterday with a talk on transferring research into economic development.
