Faculty input called key to strategic planning process

UB to open new earthquake facility.

A new era in earthquake-engineering research will be ushered in tomorrow with the grand opening of the National Science Foundation's George E. Brown Jr. Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NEES) Facility within the Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering. » Full Story

Planning process detailed. UB is engaged in a comprehensive planning process that will assess the university's institutional and academic strengths and lead to development of an academic plan and campus master strategy focusing on the achievement of academic excellence.

FSEC hears inaugural details. The Faculty Senate Executive Committee yesterday heard an overview of the Oct. 15 investiture of John B. Simpson as UB's 14th president.

Student mobility, globalization to be topic of forum. Higher-education leaders from more than 15 countries will gather at UB next month to discuss how globalization and government policies are creating opportunities and barriers for international students.

Celebrating Breverman's career. The lifelong career of distinguished artist and UB faculty member Harvey Breverman will be celebrated in an exhibition of more than 200 of Breverman's works.

Events showcase UB academics. The richness and breadth of academics at UB will be showcased during the month of October, with some 50 lectures, symposia, workshops and conferences designated as part of the inaugural academic program.

Promoting East-West relations. UB faculty member Othman Shibly actively works to promote dialogue between Eastern and Western cultures.

Expanding environmental education. An abandoned former 4-H camp in southern Erie County is well on its way to becoming a year-round, residential, environmental education center, thanks to a unique partnership between UB, Erie County and a not-for-profit environmental group.

On the Lippes stage. Pianist Leon Fleisher will open the Department of Music's concert schedule for October.
