Foresters to use GIS in wildfire-prevention efforts

Researchers at UB and the U.S. Department of Agriculture are developing a new software tool to use geographic information systems (GIS) to help forest managers optimize efforts to prevent wildfires. » Full Story

Relying on prayer. Medically underserved individuals use complementary and alternative medicines at the same rate as the population at large, but they rely more heavily on prayer and low-cost therapies, a study by UB researchers has shown.

University and the World. This series of lunchtime presentations designed to showcase the expertise of UB faculty members will kick off on Tuesday with a lecture on the Andean khipu.

Reestablishing symbiosis with algae. Corals can develop new symbiotic relationships with algae from their environments after they've undergone bleaching, the process by which corals whiten as a result of environmental stress, UB biologists report in the current issue of Science.

Hoot honored. James L. Hoot, director of the Early Childhood Research Center, has received the highest honor accorded its members by the Association for Childhood Education International, one of the world's oldest professional educational organizations.
