UB largest purchaser of wind power in NYS. UB has become the state's largest purchaser of wind-generated electricity with a purchase agreement with Community Energy, Inc. for a total of 20 million kilowatt hours.

Ashwill receives Fulbright grant. Mark Ashwill, director of the World Languages Institute, is the first American scholar to be awarded a Fulbright Senior Specialist Grant to Vietnam.

Improving delivery of mental-health services. The School of Social Work has been selected by the state Office of Mental Health to work with mental-health professionals to provide better care to residents, particularly children.

Hutson receives NYSTAR grant. Alan Hutson, chief of the Division of Biostatistics in the School of Public Health and Health Professions, has been awarded a Faculty Development grant from the New York State Office of Science, Technology and Academic Research (NYSTAR) in recognition of academic excellence in the field of bioinformatics.

Study links gum disease with oral cancer risk. UB dental researchers have found a significant association between one measure of periodontal disease and oral pre-cancerous lesions and tumors.

Alumni Award winners announced. A retired vice president of General Electric Co. will receive the UB Alumni Association's most prestigious award at the Celebration of Excellence Dinner on April 4.
