Grey to get honorary degree. Brad Grey, a UB alumnus and executive producer of "The Sopranos," will receive an honorary degree from SUNY during a visit to the Buffalo area on March 27.

Alcohol linked to oral problems. Alcohol abuse, alone a detriment to health, appears to lead to periodontal disease, tooth decay and mouth sores that are potentially pre-cancerous, a UB study has found.

Friends help Allshouse fulfill a dream. Marjorie Allshouse will fulfill her dream to hike the Grand Canyon this May, thanks to students and colleagues in the School of Management.

Helping foresters curb wildfire damage. A geographic information systems (GIS) software tool developed by a UB geographer is helping the U.S. Forest Service to more quickly and accurately assess and contain the devastation wrought by forest fires.

Treatment aids glucose level. A UB study has found that diabetics with gum disease who were treated with trial medication have better blood-sugar levels, as well as significantly improved oral health.

Design students share spotlight. Design students in the Department of Theatre & Dance will showcase their work in an upcoming exhibit, "Empty Spaces 2003: Students Design for Theatre."

Creating a model of contaminant flow. UB researchers are using the Dell computer cluster to track how toxins flow through groundwater.

UB grad Foley to premiere film. "Confidence," the new film directed by James Foley, B.A. '74, whose credits include "Reckless" and "The Chamber," is set to premiere in the Market Arcade Film and Arts Centre.

Key thinkers to meet at UB. Noted philosophers John Searle and Hernando de Soto will be among those who will gather at UB in April for a multidisciplinary workshop, "The Mystery of Capital and the Construction of Social Reality.".

Exhibit to showcase photography. An exhibit of work by the participants of the prestigious 12th annual National Graduate Seminar of The Photography Institute will be on display in UB's Anderson Gallery.

"Smart growth" advocate to offer expertise. Urban and regional planner Gerrit J. Knaap will clarify the meaning and application in this region of the concept of smart growth when he visits Buffalo next month as the 2003 Clarkson Chair in Planning.
